The Opera Don Guanella commemorates the arrival of the first Servants of Charity in Argentina, a century ago.
Thank divine Providence and celebrate
the courageous work of these pioneers

by Bruno Capparoni

È A century has passed since the first foundation of the Servants of Charity in Latin America, a long enough time to look back and remember. Therefore, during this 2025 we will offer readers a The Holy Crusade some reminders on the Guanellian Works in that continent, so as not to forget what happened and what was done with the help of God and men.

Present in Romania for thirty years, the Guanellian nuns have grown in number and works. They invited and then supported the Servants of Charity to give life to the only Guanellian Family

LThe new house of the Servants of Charity in Iași is located next to two houses of the nuns; thus a sort of Guanellian citadel of charity has arisen. Welcomed by the superior, Sister Vittoria Pop, we visited the two large structures, the Casa Providenței (House of Providence) and the Casa Sfântul Iosif (House of Saint Joseph). Moving from room to room, Sister Vittoria provided interesting information about the presence of the Daughters of Saint Mary of Providence in Romania.

The Casa Sfântul Alois Guanella in Iași was inaugurated, the first of the Servants of Charity in Romania. With many signs of gratitude from the local Church

Iași, the second city of Romania, is nestled in a hilly area that includes as many as “seven hills”. We are heading towards one of these, called Bucium-Păun, to visit our works. The surrounding area is pleasant, full of greenery and still dedicated to the traditional cultivation of vines.
