In Canada, the assisted suicide law has been in force since 2016 with which doctors prescribe lethal drugs. It was immediately extended to actual euthanasia, with the active involvement of doctors in causing the death of patients.
In the last two years the numbers of those resorting to euthanasia have grown enormously. A half-released Health Canada report January 2022 indicates that the number of witnessed and recorded deaths in Canada grew from 2.838 in 2017 to 7.383 in 2020 an increase of more than 160%. Among the causes that have pushed most people to take such an important step, cancer emerges in 67% of cases, followed by cardiovascular conditions as the second and chronic respiratory diseases as the third cause. The age average of those who have applied for assisted suicide or euthanasia is was 74 years old.
Among the dimensions of the person of Saint Joseph, there is that of being a father, that is, a human reflection of the fatherhood of God.
Dear brothers and sisters, good morning!
Last Wednesday we began the cycle of catechesis on the figure of Saint Joseph - the year dedicated to him is coming to an end [finished 8/12/2021 ed]. Today we continue this journey by focusing on his role in the history of salvation.
The goal is to be able to wear on Easter night the ability to look into each other's eyes with the light of the risen Jesus, our hope. The wisdom of Mother Church, always a teacher of life, immerses the period of the forty days of Lent in the river of our baptism, swimming with the energy acquired in the exercise of prayer, preserved in the use of the pure necessary, to flow into the beneficial stream of charity: it is the desire to not be able to be happy alone. To help us rediscover the soul of prayer, courtesy of the newspaper Avvenire we publish this writing by Ermes Ronchi.
