The Father, who generated a Son to love him, created his brother, a lesser copy of that Son, so that we can love him. The brother is the image of God: his offspring, the fruit of his blood: so that in him God is loved as an effigy and as a representation. Nor is it enough: the brother is such because he is the son of the same Father, God; became a son of God again through the incarnation, passion and death of Jesus. It can be said that the brother was given to us to remind us, by similitude, of God [...].
Which, because it is infinite, cannot be seen with limited pupils: it can be seen, as in a mirror, in the brother. Infinite, God cannot be loved with services consistent with his infinity. We can serve him in our brothers, in whom Christ is, since our brothers need limited services, congruent to our possibilities.
So that relationships between men are a game of love: one gives and the other receives, apparently: in reality both receive and give; because those who are served by us give us the privilege of making us serve God in them [...].
And then we are offered a very simple criterion for judging whether we are right with God. We are right with God if we are right with man. We love the One in heaven if we love the other on earth. All very simple: very down to earth, because very sky sky.
"By this we know that we have passed from death to life: if we love our brothers (3,14 John XNUMX:XNUMX). If we do not love our brother, we, the redeemed, pass from life to death again.
So the applications: "Don't do to others what you wouldn't want done to you." Negatively. “Treat others as you would like to be treated.” Positively.
I would not like to be slandered, hungry, kept without a home, without work, without joy...: and so, as far as is in my power, I must do my best to ensure that others are also honoured, fed, housed, employed and filled with consolations.
And here we see the play of love: Christ loves his brothers as much as himself [...]. Love places us on a domestic level: of equality: God places us on his level, as the Father places his children on his level.
