Therefore, the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea not only represents a fruitful occasion to renew, in ecumenical communion, the profession of faith in Jesus Christ, the Son consubstantial with the Father, but also constitutes an important challenge, namely that of dealing with and discussing clearly the problems of the past that, still open, have not been sufficiently addressed in the ecumenical debates held up to now. If opportunity and challenge are seized in the same way, the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea could truly prove to be a great turning point for the future of ecumenism...
