Pope Francis will open the proceedings of the 74th General Assembly of the CEI which will take place in Rome, at the Ergife Palace Hotel, from 24 to 27 May, on the theme "Announcing the Gospel in a time of rebirth. To start a synodal journey."

The Holy Father's speech, scheduled for 16pm on Monday 24 May, will be broadcast live by Vatican Media. Tuesday 25 May, at 9.30 am, will be Card. Gualtiero Bassetti, archbishop of Perugia-Città della Pieve and president of the CEI, will start the reflection with his Introduction which can be followed in streaming through the YouTube channel and the Facebook page of the Italian Episcopal Conference. On the agenda, we read in the note from the National Social Communications Office of the CEI, is the reflection on the current context which requires a renewed proclamation of the Gospel, in a synodal style. The main speech will be given by Msgr. Franco Giulio Brambilla, bishop of Novara and vice president of the CEI. The comparison in the study groups and in the classroom will help to identify bottom lines and methodologies. The Assembly will therefore be called to elect two vice presidents (for the Northern area and for the Central area), the members of the Council for Economic Affairs and the presidents of the Episcopal Commissions. The bishops will also approve decisions on legal-administrative matters. During the Assembly, some appointments with the press are planned.
