The Pope's thanks

Reverend Sir,
the Supreme Pontiff received with a grateful heart the kind expressions of good wishes which you, also on behalf of this Pious Union, wished to address to him on the occasion of your personal anniversaries.
The Holy Father cordially thanks you for the thoughtful act of devotion, supported by prayer for His Ministry and, while invoking from the Risen Lord the light of Truth and Good, which has pierced the darkness of death and brought the splendor of God to the world , heartily imparts the implored Apostolic Blessing to you and to all who have joined in the deferential gesture. With feelings of distinct respect I confirm myself,
Monsignor Peter B. Wells, Assessor

Called to visit the afflicted

Dearest Don Mario,
Thank you for sending the Pia Unione Newsletter. I read about how the Guanellian priests have always gone looking for the poor, the needy, the elderly at home. Perhaps it would be the case that all priests did it, dividing their time between the confessional and visits to the poor.
Today we could also visit the poor of Greece; a country on its last legs due to incapable rulers. People queuing for a hot dish are pitiful. The matter has spread to such an extent that even those who were well are now ill. What an opportunity this would be to visit the poor of Greece and to reunite the Orthodox in Rome through active Charity. Someone think about it and do it.
Giancarlo

It made gratitude flourish

Rev. Father Mario Carrera,
I sent a modest offering to thank Saint Joseph, who is always present in the lives of his devotees. I have lived the last few years of work in a difficult climate, due to some tensions, but with the help of Saint Joseph, I managed to remain in my position until the end of the service, overcoming every test. On the day of my leave I was cold and argumentative towards everyone. Immediately, I had the feeling of discriminating behavior from colleagues towards me. Every now and then, even involuntarily, I remembered that critical working period and the misunderstandings that had characterized it and this caused me a bit of sadness. Last January the "turning point" arrived suddenly. In a completely casual but certain way, I learned that things had gone very differently from what I had thought and that no injustice had been committed towards me. I immediately attributed this "discovery" to the intercession of Saint Joseph, who never leaves things halfway and always intervenes, albeit silently, at the right moment, to restore peace in the souls of those who trust in Him. I did an exam of conscience, realizing that I had been touchy and I promised the Saint and myself to be, from now on, less prejudiced in my relationships with others and more serene in dealing with daily problems. I thank Saint Joseph again and all of you of the Pious Union for the prayers that I always ask for me and for my loved ones and for the magazine that reaches me every month.
Letter signed, Voghera
