March

«March changes seven hats a day»

Countryside. The saying indicates that the month is very capricious: weather conditions vary very easily and low temperatures and frosts can return, so much so that sowing and transplanting work has to be postponed. If time permits, we continue with the sowing of beetroot and begin sowing sunflower, corn and soya.

Orchard and vineyard. The land is cleaned, the manure is distributed and the necessary preventive treatments are carried out. The mulching under the foliage is renewed and the production and breeding pruning of actinidia, stone fruit, small fruits, rosaceae and vineyards is completed. Split grafts can be made and the planting of the new plants can be completed.

Vegetable garden. At the beginning of the month the crops are prepared for the new sowings and transplants. We then proceed with the outdoor sowing of chard, onion, lettuce, cutting radicchio, spinach, lamb's lettuce, aromatic plants, vegetable chard, carrot, pea, cabbage, head lettuce. In protected cultivation, the following are sown: basil, cucumber, watermelon, tomato, pepper, melon, courgette. As the seedlings emerge, the seedlings are thinned.

Garden. Cleaning and hoeing of the underfoliage of trees, shrubs and rose bushes is carried out. The soil is cleaned and renewed for the planting of new plants, such as camellias, peonies, rhododendrons, primroses, etc. The ornamental potted plants are removed from their winter shelters, and where necessary, pruning is carried out and the indoor plants are repotted. Cuttings of chrysanthemum and dahlia roots can be prepared.
