It is revealed byEuropean Center for Disease Prevention and Control - EcdcThe level of acceptance of the vaccine is very high and almost half of Europeans are in favor of mandatory vaccination, but there are situations in which distrust is still high.
According to the Eurobarometer survey, carried out in May 2021, 81% of EU citizens considered anti-Covid vaccines "safe"; higher percentage among citizens over 55 years of age (only 6% refuse the vaccine, compared to 13% of young people between 25 and 39 years old) and, to a certain extent, by the employment situation. In fact, the acceptance rate drops from 69% among the employed to 59% among the unemployed. There is also a gap between inhabitants of urban centers and those in the countryside. Among the former, only 8% say they do not want to be vaccinated, compared to 13% of the latter. As regards mandatory vaccination, according to an Openpolis calculation on Eurobarometer data, in September 2021 62% of Portuguese citizens declared themselves in favor of mandatory vaccination, followed by 60% of Italian citizens and by 59% of the inhabitants of Spain and Sweden; gradually decreasing to 23% of Bulgaria.
