
After having considered from various aspects the very high dignity of the human person, created in the image and likeness of God, the Council Fathers dedicate themselves in the second part of the Gaudium et Spes constitution to considering some urgent contemporary problems: the family, culture, life social, economic and political, peace. Even though fifty years have passed since the close of the Council, these problems continue to remain "current", indeed, their urgency in some cases becomes more pressing today. These are problems of such scope and complexity that it is certainly not possible to deal with them in the short space of an article, nor, on the other hand, would I have the necessary expertise for this purpose.

The evangelical invitation "Veritatem facientes in caritate" highlights how important the inseparability of the union between truth and charity is in the journey towards perfection. Both Don Guanella and Pius praxis, that is, faith believed and faith lived. Cardinal Müller, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, was very clear in this regard: “It is inconceivable to separate doctrine from pastoral care […]. Any division between the theory and practice of faith would be the reflection of a subtle underlying Christological heresy."

The pain of children constitutes the rock on which our anger breaks in the face of evil in the world in which children are innocent victims. The irruption of Jesus into the life of humanity has upset all human logic and where Jesus met his ignominious death, the light of hope has dawned. If the tenderness of God in the heart of Jesus triumphed over human selfishness, then we have the right to look at the future illuminated by hope. It is a hope that is shaped along the tortuous paths of life. The gym, where this divine plasma is generated, a gift from the God of life, is the family. Pope Francis said that «the family has always been the closest “hospital”. It is the mother, the father, the brothers, the sisters, the grandmothers who guarantee care and help to heal." Jesus became one of us to know the weight of suffering and to give credence to his word of consolation; in fact: «No word can be credible if we do not know how to inhabit the places of suffering».
