With the support of the members of the Pious Union of Saint Joseph
A proverb says that "Bread" is the kindest, most welcoming of words: "Always write it with a capital letter, like your name".
In front of a hungry person our faith sees the very face of Jesus. Don Guanella suggested to his priests and nuns to give bread and the Lord in abundance. Being careful not to give bread without the Lord and the Lord without bread. A bread to offer with a smile and feelings of solidarity.
Every day on the frontier of the benevolence of our Houses of charity, many are the hands that knock, many are the voices, at times, timid and broken by silent sobs, many are the eyes veiled by the tears of shame that invoke help, a piece of bread to satiate the urges of hunger, a bread with the fragrance of charity and the smile of sharing.
The Pious Union has always had an open counter to offer bread scented with charity, but also a hand outstretched to ask for help from our members so that there is never a mouth deprived of the bread necessary for life. We too become beggars in solidarity to ask for help so that there is no "Day without Bread, an empty cupboard", as sad as a rainy and cold day.
One of the first words the Bible records is a Bread to be earned. This word bounces around the pages of the Bible on the mouths of the prophets, in the book of Wisdom, of the Psalms and in the Proverbs until it reaches the beating heart of the prayer taught by Jesus: the Our Father. Jesus taught this prayer to the family of his apostles and placed it as the first request for human life: to have fragrant, tasty and shared "daily bread" on our table.
Bread will return as the protagonist in the Last Supper, when in the Cenacle Jesus gives the apostles and us a "broken bread" out of love. "Give us today our daily bread" is also our prayer to the Father and to our loyal supporters of our charitable works.
Then we think that we do not have the right to be happy alone, but the right that everyone has is to enjoy Jesus' expression that "There is more joy in giving than in receiving".
Let's not leave the cupboard empty, but let's fill it with our generosity. For the hungry in the world of our missions, a "Day of Bread" is valued at €55,00.
